Ces exercices vous permettent de mettre en pratique les distinctions lexicales subtiles abordées dans le cours, notamment entre des termes proches comme slim, thin et skinny, ou confident et arrogant.

Exercice 1 — Choisir le mot juste

Choisissez le terme qui correspond le mieux au sens de la phrase. Appuyez-vous sur les nuances lexicales étudiées dans le cours.

  1. She works out every day and follows a strict diet. Everyone admires her ___ figure.
  2. After months of illness, he had lost so much weight that his clothes were hanging off him — he looked worryingly ___.
  3. The teenager constantly interrupted her teachers, bragged about her grades and never listened to anyone. Her classmates found her ___.

Exercice 2 — Associer le mot à sa nuance

Associez chaque terme de la colonne de gauche à la description qui lui correspond le mieux, en tenant compte des nuances lexicales vues dans le cours.

Correction

  1. Skinny describes someone who is excessively thin, often to an unhealthy or unattractive degree.
  2. Slim describes someone who is attractively and healthily thin, often implying effort or natural elegance.
  3. Arrogant describes someone who believes they are superior to others and shows little regard for their feelings or opinions.
  4. Confident describes someone who believes in their own abilities without dismissing or belittling others.

Exercice 3 — Compléter avec le terme précis

Complétez chaque phrase avec le mot qui convient parmi les nuances lexicales étudiées dans le cours (slim, thin, skinny, confident, arrogant). Réécrivez la phrase entière.

  1. The model on the runway looked dangerously ___, with her collarbones and ribs clearly visible through her dress.
  2. He walked into the boardroom, made eye contact with everyone, and delivered his speech without notes — he appeared completely ___.
