Exercise 1 — Choosing the right verb for the context

For each question, select the sentence that correctly uses the verb indicated in brackets, based on the distinctions explained in the lesson.

  1. Quelle phrase utilise correctement ‘saber’ pour exprimer une compétence acquise ?
  2. Quelle phrase illustre correctement l’usage de ‘estar’ pour exprimer un état temporaire ?

  2. Estoy muy cansado después del viaje.

Exercise 2 — False friends and tricky words: match the real meaning

Match each Spanish sentence to its correct French translation. Be careful — these are false friends whose meaning is not what you might expect at first glance.

  1. Está embarazada y espera gemelos.
  2. La obra de teatro tuvo mucho éxito entre el público.
  3. Voy a la librería a comprar una novela.
  4. Es una persona muy sensible que llora con facilidad.

  1. Elle est enceinte et attend des jumeaux.
  2. La pièce de théâtre a eu beaucoup de succès auprès du public.
  3. Je vais à la librairie acheter un roman.

Exercise 3 — Correcting nuance errors

Each sentence contains one error related to the vocabulary nuances studied in the lesson. Rewrite the entire sentence correctly.

  1. Ella está embarazada porque cometió un error delante de todos.
  2. Soy muy cansado hoy porque trabajé toda la noche.
  3. Le pedí a mi vecino qué hora era.
  4. Nelson Mandela fue un hombre grande, admirado en todo el mundo.
