Ces exercices vous permettent de pratiquer les marqueurs de modalité vus dans le cours : can, must, should et might pour exprimer capacité, obligation, conseil et possibilité en contexte réel.

Exercice 1 — Complétez avec le bon auxiliaire modal

Choisissez parmi can, must, should ou might pour compléter chaque phrase en fonction du sens exprimé (capacité, obligation, conseil ou possibilité).

  1. You ___ (possibilité) want to call ahead — the restaurant is often fully booked on weekends.
  2. All employees ___ (obligation) wear a badge when entering the building.
  3. She ___ (capacité) speak three languages fluently, which is a great asset for the position.
  4. You ___ (conseil) review your notes before the exam if you want to feel confident.

Exercice 2 — Corrigez les erreurs d'auxiliaires modaux

Chaque phrase contient une erreur dans l'emploi d'un auxiliaire modal. Réécrivez la phrase entière avec le modal correct en justifiant votre choix par le sens visé.

  1. You must take an umbrella — it might rain, but it's not certain at all. (conseil non-obligatoire)
  2. He should speak Japanese after living there for only two weeks. (capacité acquise)
  3. They can submit their reports by Friday — it is a strict company rule. (obligation ferme)
  4. I must be wrong about the date, but I'm really not sure either way. (possibilité incertaine)
Correction

  1. You should take an umbrella — it might rain, but it's not certain at all.
  2. He can speak Japanese after living there for only two weeks.
  3. They must submit their reports by Friday — it is a strict company rule.

Exercice 3 — Reformulez en changeant le marqueur de modalité

Transformez chaque phrase en remplaçant le modal souligné par celui indiqué entre parenthèses. Réécrivez la phrase complète en adaptant le sens si nécessaire.

  1. You must consult a doctor about those symptoms. → Reformulez avec should (conseil, ton moins impératif).
  2. She can join the meeting remotely. → Reformulez avec might (possibilité incertaine).
  3. They might finish the project before the deadline. → Reformulez avec must (obligation absolue).
  4. He should solve complex equations quickly. → Reformulez avec can (capacité avérée).
