Exercice 1 — Modaux et adverbes de nuance : complétez les phrases

Complétez chaque phrase avec le modal ou l'adverbe de nuance qui convient. Rédigez la phrase entière dans votre réponse.

  1. The situation is ___ more complicated than it first appeared, which is why we need to reconsider our approach. (adverbe de nuance exprimant une gradation)
  2. She ___ have misunderstood the instructions, because her results do not match what was expected. (modal exprimant une déduction probable au passé)
  3. The project ___ have been completed on time had the team received the necessary resources. (modal exprimant une capacité passée non réalisée)
  4. The new policy will ___ affect a large number of employees, though its full impact remains unclear. (adverbe de nuance exprimant une certitude atténuée)
Correction

  1. The situation is considerably more complicated than it first appeared, which is why we need to reconsider our approach.
  2. She must have misunderstood the instructions, because her results do not match what was expected.
  3. The project could have been completed on time had the team received the necessary resources.
  4. The new policy will likely affect a large number of employees, though its full impact remains unclear.

Exercice 2 — Connecteurs logiques et modaux : corrigez les erreurs

Chaque phrase contient une erreur portant sur un modal, un adverbe de nuance ou un connecteur logique. Récrivez la phrase entière en la corrigeant.

  1. Despite of the difficulties, the team managed to submit the report before the deadline.
  2. He might has overlooked the key details, which ultimately led to the misunderstanding.
  3. The results were highly ambiguous; furthermore, they clearly pointed to a single conclusion.
  4. Although the evidence was strong, however the committee decided to postpone their decision.
Correction

Exercice 3 — Choisir le bon outil linguistique en contexte complexe

Choisissez la phrase qui décrit le mieux la situation complexe avec le connecteur, modal ou adverbe le plus approprié.

  1. Vous voulez exprimer qu'une décision aurait pu être différente si les circonstances avaient changé.
  2. Vous voulez introduire une conséquence logique après avoir exposé deux faits contradictoires.
  3. Vous voulez nuancer une affirmation forte en indiquant qu'elle est probable mais pas certaine.
  4. Vous souhaitez exprimer qu'une action passée était obligatoire mais n'a pas été réalisée.
Correction

  1. B. The decision could have been different had the circumstances changed.
