Ces exercices vous aident à consolider les notions vues dans le cours sur les faux amis en anglais. Attention : chaque piège a déjà trompé des apprenants avancés !

Exercice 1 — Quel est le vrai sens ?

Choisissez la traduction correcte du mot anglais en contexte.

  1. She goes to the library every Saturday to borrow books.
  2. I actually didn't know he was your brother.
  3. Could you give me a chance? I need the opportunity to prove myself.
  4. He is currently working on a new project.
Correction

  1. Elle va à la bibliothèque chaque samedi pour emprunter des livres.
  2. En fait, je ne savais pas qu'il était ton frère.
  3. Pouvez-vous me donner une chance ? J'ai besoin de l'occasion pour faire mes preuves.
  4. Il travaille actuellement sur un nouveau projet.

Exercice 2 — Faux amis : reliez le mot à son vrai sens

Associez chaque mot anglais à sa définition correcte en anglais. Attention aux ressemblances trompeuses avec le français !

Correction

  1. A library is a place where you can borrow books for free, not a shop where you buy them.
  2. Actually means 'in fact' or 'in reality', not 'at the present moment'.
  3. Currently means 'at the present time', which is the correct translation of the French word 'actuellement'.
  4. A bookshop is a store where you buy books, which corresponds to the French word 'librairie'.

Exercice 3 — Complétez avec le bon mot

Complétez chaque phrase avec le mot anglais correct parmi les faux amis étudiés dans le cours.

  1. I borrowed three novels from the ___ near my school last week.
  2. She told me she was tired, but ___ she was just bored with the conversation.
  3. He is ___ studying for his B1 English exam and hopes to pass it next month.
  4. I went to the ___ in town to buy the new novel everyone is talking about.
Correction
