Exercices C1 : utiliser la modalisation en anglais (corrigé)

Ces exercices vous permettent de mettre en pratique la modalisation en anglais vue dans le cours. Entraînez-vous à utiliser les verbes modaux pour exprimer avec précision la possibilité, l’obligation et la déduction.

Exercice 1 — Complétez avec le bon verbe modal

Choisissez le verbe modal qui convient (can, must, might, should, can't) et réécrivez la phrase complète.

1. She ___ be the new manager — I saw her name on the office door this morning.
2. He ___ have taken the last train; it left an hour ago and he still isn't here.
3. You ___ submit your application before midnight, otherwise it will not be considered.
4. That ___ be right — the report clearly states the opposite conclusion.

Exercice 2 — Corrigez les erreurs de modalisation

Chaque phrase contient une erreur liée à l'emploi d'un verbe modal. Identifiez l'erreur et récrivez la phrase correctement.

1. She must not be at home — I can see her lights are on and her car is in the driveway.
2. He can have forgotten the meeting; he never misses an appointment.
3. They might must finish the project by Friday if they want to meet the deadline.
4. You should to call her before making any decision about the contract.

Exercice 3 — Choisissez la bonne modalisation

Pour chaque situation, choisissez la phrase qui exprime correctement la nuance modale indiquée entre parenthèses.

1. Exprimez une déduction quasi certaine (présent) : vous remarquez que votre collègue tremble et a l'air épuisé.
2. Exprimez une possibilité incertaine (futur) : vous n'êtes pas sûr de pouvoir assister à la réunion.
3. Exprimez une impossibilité logique (passé) : il était à Paris hier, il ne peut pas avoir été à Londres en même temps.
4. Exprimez une obligation externe forte (présent) : la loi impose de porter une ceinture de sécurité.

Correction
