Exercice 1 — Reporting verbs: elige el verbo correcto

Elige el reporting verb más adecuado para cada enunciado académico. Ten en cuenta el matiz semántico de cada verbo.

  1. The authors ___ that the results may have been influenced by external variables, acknowledging a potential limitation of their study.
  2. Several researchers ___ that traditional models fail to account for socioeconomic factors, challenging long-standing assumptions in the field.
  3. The report ___ that further longitudinal studies are necessary before any definitive conclusions can be drawn.
  4. The committee ___ that the new policy had significantly reduced research funding in public universities.

Exercice 2 — Conectores formales: relaciona el conector con su función

Asocia cada conector formal con la frase académica que mejor ilustra su función discursiva. Guíate por el matiz lógico de cada conector.

  1. Conector: 'Nevertheless'
  2. Conector: 'Furthermore'
  3. Conector: 'Consequently'
  4. Conector: 'Notwithstanding'
Correction

  1. 'Nevertheless' introduce una concesión formal: 'The sample size was relatively small; nevertheless, the findings remain statistically significant and warrant further investigation.'
  2. 'Furthermore' añade información que refuerza el argumento: 'The intervention reduced dropout rates by 15%; furthermore, it improved overall academic performance among at-risk students.'
  3. 'Consequently' expresa una relación de causa-efecto: 'Funding for the project was withdrawn in the third year; consequently, the research team was unable to complete the final phase of data collection.'
  4. 'Notwithstanding' introduce una reserva formal: 'Notwithstanding the methodological limitations outlined above, the study offers a valuable contribution to the existing body of literature on climate adaptation.'

Exercice 3 — Voz pasiva académica: completa las estructuras

Completa cada oración académica con la forma correcta de la voz pasiva. Escribe la oración completa y presta atención al tiempo verbal y al contexto formal.

  1. The data ___ (collect) over a period of five years using a standardised longitudinal methodology across twelve research institutions.
