Exercices A2 : utiliser l’imparfait en anglais

L’anglais n’a pas d’imparfait à proprement parler : il utilise le Past Continuous, used to ou would. Ces exercices vous aident à maîtriser ces trois structures.

Exercice 1 — Complétez avec la bonne forme

Complétez chaque phrase avec la forme correcte du Past Continuous, de used to ou de would selon le contexte.

1. When I was a child, I ___ (used to / play) in the garden every afternoon.
2. She ___ (Past Continuous / read) a book when the phone rang.
3. Every summer, my grandfather ___ (would / tell) us stories about his youth.
4. They ___ (Past Continuous / walk) to school when it started to rain.

Exercice 2 — Transformez les phrases

Reformulez chaque phrase en utilisant la structure indiquée entre parenthèses, sans changer le sens.

1. In the past, he smoked a lot. (used to)
2. At that moment, the children played in the garden. (Past Continuous)
3. In her childhood, she visited her grandparents every Sunday. (would)
4. At midnight, I worked on my project. (Past Continuous)

Exercice 3 — Corrigez les erreurs

Chaque phrase contient une erreur liée à l'utilisation du Past Continuous, de used to ou de would. Réécrivez la phrase correctement.

1. When I was young, I was used to ride my bike to school every day.
2. He was read a newspaper when his boss called him.
3. Every winter, they would knowing how to make a fire in the fireplace.
4. My parents use to live in a small village before moving to the city.
