Exercice 1 — Reconnaître le sarcasme en contexte
Lisez chaque situation et choisissez la réponse la plus sarcastique et naturelle en anglais.
- Your colleague arrives two hours late to the meeting and says nothing. You respond:
- Your friend forgets your birthday for the third year in a row. You say:
- Your boss gives you an enormous pile of work on a Friday afternoon and says 'It's just a small task.' You think to yourself:
- It's pouring with rain and your friend says 'Great weather, isn't it?' You understand this as:
Correction
- A) Oh, so nice of you to finally grace us with your presence.
- B) Wow, what a surprise — you forgot again. Truly shocking.
- C) Oh yes, just a small task — only about forty hours of work, no big deal.
- C) A sarcastic remark implying the weather is actually awful.
Exercice 2 — Compléter un dialogue sarcastique
Complétez chaque réplique en choisissant la formulation sarcastique la plus appropriée pour finir le dialogue de façon naturelle et cohérente.
- A: 'I accidentally deleted the entire project file.' B: 'Oh, brilliant. ___'
- A: 'Sorry, I didn't read the instructions.' B: 'Oh, what a shock. ___'
- A: 'I told you the meeting was at nine, not ten.' B: 'Oh, how wonderful of you to tell me now. ___'
- A: 'The Wi-Fi is down again.' B: 'Oh, fantastic. ___'

Exercice 3 — Reformuler une phrase en sarcasme
Reformulez chaque énoncé neutre ou négatif en une phrase sarcastique naturelle en anglais, en utilisant les mécanismes vus dans le cours (antiphrase, ton exagéré, understatement, etc.).
- Reformulez cette phrase en la rendant sarcastique : 'This plan is completely unrealistic and will never work.'
- Reformulez cette phrase en la rendant sarcastique : 'You gave me very short notice and now I have to cancel everything.'
- Reformulez cette phrase en la rendant sarcastique : 'He thinks he knows everything and never listens to anyone.'
- Reformulez cette phrase en la rendant sarcastique : 'The film was extremely boring and I almost fell asleep.'
Correction
- Oh sure, this plan is absolutely flawless — what could possibly go wrong?
- Oh, how thoughtful of you to let me know — I only had to cancel my entire week, no big deal at all.
- Oh, he's practically a genius — why would he ever need to listen to mere mortals like us?
- Oh, what a riveting film — I was on the edge of my seat the whole time, clearly.
