Exercice 1 — Comprensión del slang y las expresiones idiomáticas

Elige la opción que mejor explica el significado de cada expresión familiar en inglés según el contexto dado.

  1. Your friend says: 'I'm absolutely knackered after that meeting.' What does she mean?
  2. A colleague tells you: 'Don't worry, that presentation was a piece of cake.' What is he saying?
  3. Someone says: 'She's been a bit under the weather lately.' What does this idiom mean in context?
  4. Your flatmate says: 'I can't make head or tail of this instruction manual.' What does he mean?
Correction

  1. C) She is completely exhausted.
  2. B) He is saying the presentation was very easy.
  3. C) She has been feeling slightly unwell or ill.
  4. B) He cannot understand the manual at all.

Exercice 2 — Asocia la expresión con su equivalente formal

Une cada expresión familiar o contracción en inglés con su equivalente en registro formal o su definición. Escribe la frase completa que relaciona ambas columnas.

  1. Columna A: 'I should've told you earlier.' — Columna B: ¿Cuál es la forma expandida sin contracción de esta frase?
  2. Columna A: 'He's gonna sort it out, don't worry.' — Columna B: ¿Cuál es la forma estándar equivalente de esta frase?
  3. Columna A: 'We'd better wrap this up soon.' — Columna B: ¿Qué significa 'wrap this up' en registro formal?
  4. Columna A: 'She couldn't care less about the gossip.' — Columna B: ¿Cómo se expresaría esta idea en inglés formal?
Correction

  1. The expanded form without a contraction is: 'I should have told you earlier.'
  2. The standard equivalent form is: 'He is going to sort it out, do not worry.'
  3. In formal register, 'wrap this up' means to bring this to a conclusion or to finish this.
  4. In formal English, this would be expressed as: 'She is completely indifferent to the gossip.'

Exercice 3 — Completa con la contracción o expresión familiar correcta

Rellena cada espacio en blanco con la contracción, expresión de slang o idiom adecuado que hayas visto en el curso para que la frase suene natural en inglés coloquial.

  1. I ___ (should not have) said that — it really put my foot in my mouth.
  2. They ___ (would have) caught the earlier train if they hadn't been hanging around at the café.
  3. Come on, ___ (let us) cut to the chase — what exactly are you trying to say?
  4. She ___ (is not) feeling herself today; I reckon she's coming down with something.
