Estos ejercicios te ayudarán a consolidar tu comprensión de los arcaísmos en inglés clásico vistos en el curso, desde las formas verbales de la segunda persona hasta el léxico bíblico y shakespeariano.

Exercice 1 — Completa con la forma arcaica correcta

Rellena cada hueco con la forma verbal arcaica apropiada según el contexto clásico. Escribe la frase completa.

  1. Thou ___ not what thou doest, for thy mind is clouded by sin. (saber, presente arcaico de 'to know' con 'thou')
  2. He ___ no mercy upon those who forsake the righteous path. (tener, presente arcaico de 'to have' en tercera persona)
  3. What ___ thou in thine hand, that thou wouldst offer unto the Lord? (tener, presente arcaico de 'to have' con 'thou')
  4. Wherefore ___ thou weep, for the hour of deliverance is nigh? (hacer, arcaico auxiliar interrogativo con 'thou')

  1. Thou knowest not what thou doest, for thy mind is clouded by sin.

Exercice 2 — Corrige los errores arcaicos

Cada frase contiene un error en el uso de una forma arcaica del inglés clásico. Identifica el error y escribe la frase corregida completa.

  1. Thou does love her with a passion most unnatural, and yet thou speakest not.
  2. Verily I say unto thee, whosoever believeth in me have everlasting life.
  3. Thy servant kneweth not of the treachery that was wrought against thee in the night.
  4. Whither goest you, my lord, that you departeth in such haste and without farewell?

  1. La respuesta correcta es b) Where to, ya que 'whither' es un arcaísmo que significa 'adónde' e indica dirección hacia un lugar, equivalente moderno de 'where to'.
  2. La respuesta correcta es b) To grant or condescend to give, pues 'vouchsafe' es un arcaísmo que significa conceder o dignarse a dar algo a alguien de menor rango.
  3. La respuesta correcta es c) From this time onwards, dado que 'henceforth' es un arcaísmo que significa 'de ahora en adelante' o 'a partir de este momento'.
  4. La respuesta correcta es b) It seems to me, ya que 'methinks' es un arcaísmo impersonal que significa 'me parece' o 'creo yo', sin implicar reflexión consciente explícita.
