You have just studied the present imperative in Spanish, its affirmative and negative forms, and the most common irregular verbs. These exercises will help you practise the conjugation covered in the lesson.

Exercise 1 — Conjugating the affirmative imperative

Complete each sentence by conjugating the verb in brackets in the affirmative imperative, using the person indicated.

  1. ___ (hablar, tú) más despacio, por favor.
  2. ___ (comer, ustedes) las verduras antes del postre.
  3. ___ (vivir, vosotros/as) el momento presente.
  4. ___ (hacer, tú) tu tarea antes de salir.
Correction

  1. Habla más despacio, por favor.
  2. Coman las verduras antes del postre.
  3. Vivid el momento presente.
  4. Haz tu tarea antes de salir.

Exercise 2 — From affirmative to negative

Transform each affirmative imperative sentence into a negative imperative, keeping the same person and meaning.

  1. Habla tan rápido. (tú)
  2. Come en clase. (tú)
  3. Vivid con miedo. (vosotros/as)
  4. Hablen durante el examen. (ustedes)
Correction

  1. No hables tan rápido.
  2. No comas en clase.
  3. No viváis con miedo.
  4. No hablen durante el examen.

Exercise 3 — Correcting imperative errors

Each sentence contains an error in the imperative conjugation. Rewrite the whole sentence with the correct form.

  1. No habla tan rápido. (impératif négatif, tú)
  2. Hacer tu tarea ahora. (impératif affirmatif, tú)
  3. Comed vosotros no las verduras. (impératif négatif, vosotros/as)
  4. Ser amable con tus amigos. (impératif affirmatif, tú)
Correction

  1. No hables tan rápido.
  2. Haz tu tarea ahora.
  3. No comáis las verduras.
  4. Sé amable con tus amigos.
