Exercises A1 : how to say hello in French (practice and corrections)

You have just learned how to greet people and introduce yourself in French. These exercises will help you practise the expressions, dialogues and language registers covered in the lesson.

Exercise 1 — Which expression should you use?

Read each situation and choose the most appropriate answer from the four options.

1. Tu arrives chez un ami à 20h pour dîner. Que dis-tu en entrant ?
2. Tu rencontres une nouvelle collègue au bureau pour la première fois. Comment lui demandes-tu son prénom de façon formelle ?
3. Tu parles à un inconnu dans un café et tu veux lui dire que tu es originaire de Mexico. Quelle phrase utilises-tu ?
4. Tu quittes un ami après une soirée et tu lui promets de le revoir bientôt. Que lui dis-tu ?

Exercise 2 — Complete the dialogue

Read the dialogue between two people meeting for the first time and choose the correct line for each numbered gap. Write the complete line in your answer.

1. Lucas : Bonjour ! ___ Lucas. Et vous ?

2. Amina : Je m’appelle Amina. ___ 28 ans.

Exercise 3 — Formal or informal?

Each sentence is written in one register (formal or informal). Rewrite it in the opposite register, producing the complete sentence correctly.

1. Registre informel → formel : « Tu habites où ? »
2. Registre formel → informel : « Quel âge avez-vous ? »
3. Registre informel → formel : « Tu fais quoi comme travail ? »
4. Registre formel → informel : « Comment vous appelez-vous ? »
