Exercises A1 : how to use french present tense (practice and corrections)

These exercises are based on the lesson about the French present indicative tense. Practice conjugating verbs from all three groups, including common irregular verbs like être, avoir, aller and faire.

Exercise 1 — Conjugate in the present tense

Complete each sentence by conjugating the verb in brackets in the present indicative tense.

1. Chaque matin, nous ___ (finir) notre café avant de partir.
2. Thomas ___ (être) professeur de mathématiques.
3. Elles ___ (aller) à l’école maternelle tous les jours.
4. Je ___ (faire) la vaisselle après le dîner.

Exercise 2 — Change the subject pronoun

Rewrite each sentence by replacing the underlined subject with the new subject given in brackets. Adjust the conjugation accordingly.

1. Je parle français tous les jours. → (Nous)
2. Tu finis ton exercice rapidement. → (Il)
3. Elle a un chien et deux chats. → (Ils)
4. Vous allez au marché le samedi. → (Je)

Exercise 3 — Correct the conjugation mistakes

Each sentence contains one conjugation mistake in the present indicative tense. Rewrite the sentence correctly.

1. Nous êtes contents de voir Thomas.
2. Ils finissent pas leurs devoirs ce soir. (oubli du verbe conjugué)
3. Elle vont à l’école avec son père.
4. Vous faites beaucoup des erreurs aujourd’hui.
